Its climbing growth habit makes identification relatively easy compared to other winter weeds.

Control Strategies for Established Vetch

• Manual Removal: For small infestations, pull vetch when soil is moist in late winter or early spring, removing as much of the shallow root system as possible
• Post-Emergent Herbicide: Herbicides containing 2,4-D effectively control vetch when applied in March-April while the plant is actively growing and before seed formation
• Pre-Emergent Prevention: Fall applications of pre-emergent herbicides in September prevent vetch seed germination before plants establish
• Spring Removal: Remove any remaining plants before seed heads develop in late April to prevent next year's infestation
